Snicket Socks Complete!

Finally, I can check these socks off my list!

Pattern: Snicket Socks from Magknits
Yarn: Rio de la Plata kettle dyed sock yarn -- Love this yarn!
Started: July 2007!
Finished: March 2008

I am so happy to have finished these socks. Toward the end, I was really starting to hate them--doing a million little cable twists on size zero needles just got tedious--but I am very pleased with how they turned out. Thankfully, I was able to ignore my natural inclination to move on to another project!

I started the pattern way back in July, but most of the knitting was done in the past month. These socks were supposed to be my Sock of the Month for February, but I just couldn't finish in time.

I made a few modifications to the pattern. The first was doing a heel flap instead of a short row heel. I was inspired by this version, and I love how the heel looks with the twisted stitches running down it. (Don't look too closely, because I made a mistake. I saw it at the time, but just kept going!)

I also did a slightly different toe. The pattern tells you to decrease every 4th row until you have a certain number of stitches. At that point you are to decrease every row until 8 stitches remain, pull the yarn through these stitches and tie off.

I did this toe on the first sock, but I ended up dropping a bunch of stitches while trying to pull the yarn through (I'm still not sure how that happened!) and having to go back. Long story short, I decided to do kitchener with 36 stitches remaining. I'm glad it did this--the toe is roomier and it was also getting a little too long.

I did make one other mistake. Because the pattern was written for a short row heel, I had to figure out the heel flap for myself. When I distributed my stitches for the heel, I centered the pattern on the instep for one, and on the other I didn't! So the pattern is off by a stitch on one socks, which is hard to tell from the front, but the from the side I can tell. Of course, I don't think anyone is going to look at my feet that closely, and if they do I should probably be afraid!

All in all, this was an excellent pattern with an impressive result. I don't think I would knit these socks again, but I'm happy that I did. On to the next pair...

i am so happy for you that they are off of the needles.
sometimes mistakes add character and no one would EVER be able to see it!

Wow, these are gorgeous socks. They might have been a pain to knit, but the end result is certainly worth it. Love the heel flap!!

Excellent work and great color to show off all the beauty-ful cables...I started a pair of socks on size 0s last month. It may take me several months to finish them because I'm not used to zeros! You've inspired me.

Beautiful Socks! I know what it is like to work "too much" on a pair of socks and not be thrilled, but wait a few weeks and they will probably be one of your favorites!!!
